Terms of Service

1. Introduction

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern access to and use of the website, services, training programmes, certifications, and membership offerings provided by the Literacy and Reading Therapies Association Singapore (LRTAS) (“the Association”, “we”, “our”, or “us”). By accessing our website, enrolling in programmes, applying for membership, or using any of our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you should refrain from using our services.

2. Purpose of the Association

LRTAS is a professional association established to promote high standards of practice, education, ethics, and continuing professional development in the field of literacy and reading therapies. The Association does not provide medical diagnosis or treatment and does not replace professional clinical, psychological, or medical services.

3. Eligibility and User Responsibilities

Users of LRTAS services may include members, trainees, applicants, educators, professionals, and members of the public. By using our services, you represent that:

  • You are at least 18 years of age, or have obtained appropriate consent;
  • Information provided to LRTAS is accurate, current, and complete;
  • You will comply with all applicable laws, professional regulations, and ethical standards;
  • You will not misuse LRTAS content, materials, or services.

4. Membership and Certification

Membership and certification are awarded based on individual merit, qualifications, training completion, and adherence to LRTAS professional and ethical standards. Certification programmes may be delivered in collaboration with external awarding bodies, including the International Association of Counselors and Therapists (IACT). Certification does not constitute licensure, registration with statutory bodies, or legal authorisation to practise where such licensing is required.

The Association reserves the right to:

  • Review, approve, reject, suspend, or terminate membership or certification;
  • Request supporting documentation;
  • Require ongoing compliance with CPD and renewal requirements.

5. Training Programmes and CPD

Training programmes are provided for professional development and educational purposes. Completion of a programme does not guarantee employment, professional advancement, or clinical outcomes. CPD hours are awarded based on attendance, participation, assessment completion, and compliance with programme requirements. CPD recognition is subject to periodic review and may change in accordance with Association standards.

6. Fees, Payments, and Refunds

All fees for membership, training programmes, assessments, certifications, and services are stated in advance unless otherwise indicated.

Unless explicitly stated:

  • Fees are non-refundable once access to materials or programmes has commenced;
  • Membership and certification fees are non-transferable;
  • The Association reserves the right to revise fees with reasonable notice.
  • Refunds, if applicable, are subject to specific programme or service policies.

7. Intellectual Property

All content provided by LRTAS, including but not limited to course materials, assessments, documents, logos, text, graphics, and digital resources, are the intellectual property of the Association or its licensors. Users may not reproduce, distribute, modify, sell, or exploit any materials without prior written permission.

8. Professional Conduct and Ethics

Members, trainees, and certificants are expected to adhere to the LRTAS Code of Ethics and Professional Standards. Any conduct that may bring the Association into disrepute—including misrepresentation of credentials, unethical practice, or misuse of Association affiliation—may result in disciplinary action, suspension, or termination without refund.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, LRTAS shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, our services, programmes, or materials. The Association does not guarantee specific academic, professional, or clinical outcomes.

10. Privacy and Data Protection

Personal data is collected and managed in accordance with applicable data protection laws, including Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). Please refer to our Privacy Policy for detailed information on data collection, use, and protection.

11. Third-Party Services and Links

LRTAS may reference or link to third-party organisations, platforms, or resources. The Association is not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of such third parties.

12. Amendments to Terms

The Association reserves the right to amend these Terms at any time. Updated Terms will be posted on the LRTAS website and will take effect upon publication. Continued use of services constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Singapore.
